Introduction to Laboratory
Structural Mechanics Laboratory contributes mainly teaching activities in the Civil Engineering Department. It provides support in a wide range of specialized areas of structural mechanics, stability analysis and testing of structural dynamics to the students.
This includes: determination of Forces Acting on Pulleys and Block and Tackle Units, determination of creep rupture behavior of materials verification of Hooke's law, sliding and Rolling Friction, Single Stage spur gear transmission, Deflection of a straight beams, Determination of bar forces of a crane jib, Determination of forces in a basic Roof Truss, Friction on an Inclined Plane, Torsion of Bars, Shearing Force and Bending moment Apparatus, Static force experiments.

 Measuring Wheel It is used to measuring distance.

 Prismatic Compass It is navigation and surveying instrument which is extensively used to find out the bearing of the traversing and included angles between them, waypoints and direction.

 Leica hand held laser meter Laser distance meter is the device to ascertain the measurements of distance without bulky reel-in tapes, or walking wheel distance measurement systems
|
 Total Station with tripod stand It is an electronic transit theodolite integrated with electronic distance measurement (EDM) to measure both vertical and horizontal angles and the slope distance from the instrument to a particular point, and an on-board computer to collect data and perform triangulation calculations
|
 Clinometer It is used for measuring angles of slope, elevation, or depression of an object with respect to gravity's direction.
|
 Surveying Binocular Binoculars are two telescopes mounted side-by-side and aligned to point in the same direction, allowing the viewer to use both eyes when viewing distant objects.

 Planimeter Determining of volume bounded within contours with the help of planimeter (device used to determine area of an arbitrary two-dimensional shape.)
|
 Prism It is fixed on tripod stand and is used as a target for distance measurement using total station.
|
 Leica Digital Level Determination of elevation of various points using Bench Mark. It is used to conduct fly leveling, reciprocal leveling and profile leveling.

 Measuring Tape It is used to measure horizontal, vertical or slope distances It is used in chain surveying (open and closed traversing) in which only linear measurements are made in the field.
